The Blessed Virtues of Dhul-Hijjah

Within the tapestry of Islamic months, there exists a sacred period that beckons us to open our hearts and extend a helping hand—the blessed month of Dhul-Hijjah. In this article, we embark on a journey to explore the virtues of Dhul-Hijjah, guided by the Quran and the teachings of our beloved Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), highlighting the profound rewards and blessings that await those who engage in charitable acts during this auspicious time.

The Sacredness of the First Ten Days

The period of Dhul-Hijjah encompasses ten days that are filled with divine blessings and abundant rewards.d abundant rewards.d abundant rewards.. These blessed days are an invitation to unlock the gates of generosity and exemplify the true essence of Islam. Through acts of charity and kindness, we sow the seeds of compassion, making an enduring impact on the lives of those in need. As Allah  reminds us, “And establish prayer and give zakah and bow with those who bow [in worship and obedience]” (Quran 2:43).

The Magnificence of Hajj

Dhul-Hijjah intertwines its virtues with the timeless journey of Hajj. As pilgrims stand on the holy grounds of Mecca, they become living embodiments of selflessness and devotion. The spirit of giving emanates from every corner, as Muslims from diverse backgrounds unite to serve a higher purpose. Let us reflect upon the teachings of our beloved Prophet ﷺ, who said, “The best charity is that given in Ramadan and the best Hajj is that which is abundant in spending” (Tirmidhi).

The Blessed Eid-ul-Adha

Eid-ul-Adha, the Festival of Sacrifice, encapsulates the essence of generosity and gratitude. As we commemorate the sacrifice of Prophet Ibrahim (AS) and his son Ismail (AS), we are reminded of the importance of selflessness and sharing. It is during this time that countless charitable organisations and individuals reach out to provide aid and support to those affected by poverty and adversity. By participating in such noble efforts, we honour the spirit of sacrifice and uphold the teachings of Islam.

The Power of Dhikr and Takbeer

In the tranquil moments of Dhul-Hijjah, let us immerse ourselves in the remembrance of Allah (SWT). Through Dhikr and recitation of the Takbeer, we find solace and elevate our spirits. As we proclaim the greatness of Allah and express our gratitude, let us also remember those less fortunate and extend our hands in charity, for the Prophet ﷺ said, “Whoever gives a charity equal to a date from pure earnings, for Allah accepts only that which is pure, Allah will accept it with His right hand and will cause it to grow for its owner” (Bukhari).

As Dhul-Hijjah embraces us with its blessings, let us recognise the immense opportunities for charitable acts and selfless giving that it presents. By engaging in acts of charity and extending our support to the less privileged, we cultivate a spirit of compassion and kindness within ourselves. Embracing the virtues of Dhul-Hijjah through charitable deeds not only benefits those in need but also brings us closer to the divine mercy of Allah. May this blessed month inspire us to make a lasting difference and uphold the values of generosity and giving throughout the year.
