Discover the 5 most essential Duas to recite during the 10 blessed days of Dhul Hijjah — including the Dua of Arafah, Dhikr, forgiveness, and acceptance of deeds from the Sunnah.
The first ten days of Dhul Hijjah are described by the Prophet ﷺ as the most superior days of the entire year. For those seeking to supercharge their Dhikr and worship, these five essential Duas — drawn from the Sunnah and the practices of the righteous — are your spiritual lifeline during these blessed days.
According to a Hadith in al-Tirmidhi, the Prophet ﷺ said the best Dua is the Dua of the Day of Arafah. The best of what the Prophet ﷺ and the Prophets before him said is: La ilaha illallahu wahdahu la sharika lahu, lahul-mulku wa lahul-hamdu, wa huwa ala kulli shayin qadir. (There is no god but Allah alone, Who has no partner, His is the dominion and His is the praise, and He is Able to do all things.) Repeat this abundantly on the Day of Arafah — the 9th of Dhul Hijjah — and throughout the ten days.
The Prophet ﷺ explicitly encouraged a great deal of Dhikr during these ten days (Ahmad). This combination of Tahmeed, Tasbeeh, and Takbeer is the most beloved speech to Allah: SubhanAllahi, wal-hamdu lillahi, wa la ilaha illallahu, wallahu akbar. (Glory be to Allah, and praise be to Allah, and there is no god but Allah, and Allah is the Greatest.) Repeat this throughout your day — while walking, cooking, working — and fill these blessed days with the remembrance of Allah.
Since these days are a second chance to reset our souls, seeking forgiveness is paramount. This Dua is reported from the Prophet ﷺ and is exceptionally comprehensive in seeking pardon for all types of sins (Muslim): Allahummaghfir li dhanbi kullahu, diqqahu wa jillahu, wa awwalahu wa akhirahu, wa alaniyatahu wa sirrahu. (O Allah, forgive me all my sins, the small and the great, the first and the last, the open and the secret.) Recite this with sincerity and trust in Allah's infinite mercy.
These ten days are a time when Allah perfected the religion. Scholars recommend this Quranic Dua as it covers every need of a human being in this life and the next (Quran 2:201): Rabbana atina fid-dunya hasanatan wa fil-akhirati hasanatan wa qina adhaban-nar. (Our Lord, give us in this world that which is good and in the Hereafter that which is good and protect us from the punishment of the Fire.) This beautiful Dua encompasses everything a believer could wish for.
As deeds are most beloved to Allah during these days, the greatest fear of a believer is that their efforts remain unaccepted. This Dua from the Quran (2:127), famously made by Ibrahim AS — the central figure of Dhul Hijjah — is the perfect conclusion to any act of worship: Rabbana taqabbal minna, innaka Antas-Samiul-Alim. (Our Lord, accept this from us. Indeed You are the Hearing, the Knowing.) Recite this after every prayer, every act of charity, and every moment of worship during these blessed days.
These Duas serve as a spiritual lifeline during the most blessed days of the year. Whether you are fasting, giving charity, or donating on the Day of Arafah, these supplications ensure your heart remains connected to the ultimate purpose of the season. May Allah increase us in His beautiful Dhikr and Dua, and accept all our prayers and worship. Ameen.
