Comparisons Between the Battle of the Trench & the War on Palestine

History has a way of repeating itself. This piece draws heartfelt parallels between the struggles of the Prophet’s time and what the people of Palestine face today.

    1. Alliances Against Muslims – Just as Quraysh and Jewish tribes allied against the Muslims in Medina, various global and regional forces have formed coalitions against the Palestinian people. (Surah Al-Ahzab, 33:10)

"[Remember] when they came at you from above you and from below you, and when eyes shifted [in fear], and hearts reached the throats, and you assumed about Allah [various] assumptions."

    2. Betrayal from Within – The treachery of Banu Qurayda mirrors the betrayal Palestinians face from some of their own or from external actors who were once considered allies. (Surah Al-Ahzab, 33:26)

"And He brought down those who had supported them among the People of the Scripture from their fortresses and cast terror into their hearts, [so that] a party you killed, and you took captive a party."

    3. Siege & Hardships – The Muslims in Medina suffered food shortages and extreme hardships during the siege, similar to the brutal blockades and suffering imposed on Palestinians today. (Surah Al-Ahzab, 33:11)

    هُنَالِكَ ٱبْتُلِىَ ٱلْمُؤْمِنُونَ وَزُلْزِلُوا زِلْزَا الًً شَدِي ا دًا

"There the believers were tested and shaken with a severe shaking."

    4. Psychological Warfare Against Palestine – Just as fear and doubt tested the faith of the Muslims when they saw the vast enemy forces, Palestinians also endure immense psychological pressure due to constant aggression. (Surah Al-Ahzab, 33:12)

"And [remember] when the hypocrites and those in whose hearts is disease said, 'Allah and His Messenger did not promise us anything but delusion.'"

This verse highlights how some individuals within the Muslim community itself became agents of fear and despair. Instead of strengthening the resolve of the believers, they spread doubt, undermining faith in Allah’s promise of victory. Their negativity was a psychological weapon that weakened morale at a critical time.

    Parallels to Today:

In the modern context, similar psychological warfare is being waged against the Palestinian resistance—not only by external enemies but also by certain corrupt or misguided Muslims. Some of the ways this manifests include:

Spreading Defeatism – There are those that repeatedly claim that resistance is futile, that the enemy is too powerful, and that there is no hope for victory. This echoes the words of the hypocrites in Medina who said, "Allah and His Messenger did not promise us anything but delusion."

Such defeatist rhetoric serves to demoralize the oppressed rather than inspire resilience.

Normalizing Oppression – Instead of standing firm against injustice, some Muslim leading figures justify collaboration with oppressors, portraying it as pragmatism. They discourage any struggle or resistance, framing it as reckless, just as the hypocrites in Medina discouraged the believers from standing firm.

Mocking Resistance – Just as the hypocrites in the time of the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم ridiculed the idea that Allah would grant victory, today we see some voices mocking any effort to stand against oppression. They belittle the sacrifices of those fighting for their rights, further spreading doubt and fear.

Prioritizing Self-Interest – Many of those who weaken the resolve of Muslims do so for personal or political gain, aligning themselves with oppressive forces for material benefit, much like the hypocrites of Medina who sought to protect their own interests rather than stand with the truth.
