The first ten days of Dhul Hijjah are the most blessed days of the year. This comprehensive daily checklist guides you through five essential acts of worship — Dhikr, fasting, Sadaqah, Tahajjud, and Tawbah — to help you maximise your reward and draw closer to Allah during this sacred time.
The first ten days of Dhul Hijjah are a divine gift, described by the Prophet ﷺ as the most superior days of the entire year. While many associate this month solely with the Hajj pilgrimage, the spiritual opportunities available to those at home are equally profound. To help you strengthen every moment of this sacred window, we have compiled a daily checklist to ensure no opportunity for reward is missed.
The Prophet ﷺ commanded us to increase our remembrance of Allah during this time. Keep your tongue moist with the four beloved phrases: Subhanallah (Glory be to Allah), Alhamdulillah (Praise be to Allah), Allahu Akbar (Allah is the Greatest), and La ilaha illa Allah (There is no god but Allah) (Ahmad). These simple words carry immense weight on the Scales and transform your daily routine into a constant act of worship.
Fasting is one of the most beloved deeds to Allah. While fasting all nine days is highly recommended, the Day of Arafah (the 9th of Dhul Hijjah) is unmissable. The Prophet ﷺ stated that fasting on this day expiates the sins of the past year and the coming year (Muslim). It is a golden opportunity for a clean slate.
Righteous deeds are more beloved to Allah in these ten days than at any other time. Consistency is key. Even a small amount given daily is magnified in value. Whether it is providing a meal, supporting an orphan, or contributing to a water well, ensure your wealth bears witness for you on the Day of Judgment.
The last third of the night is a time of divine descent and answered supplications. Try to wake up just 10 or 15 minutes before Fajr to pray Tahajjud. In the stillness of the night, you can find a quiet, powerful moment of connection with your Creator to ask for your deepest needs.
Allah is Al-Ghaffur (The Forgiving) and He loves those who return to Him. Use these blessed days to turn back to Allah with a sincere heart. Acknowledge your shortcomings, resolve to improve, and trust in His infinite mercy. There is no better time to repair your relationship with Allah than during the days He has made most sacred.
