Hunger Tightens Its Grip as Gaza Starves

Gaza is starving. Over 2 million lives hang in the balance. This World Hunger Day, stand with the Ummah—donate, pray, and raise your voice. Every meal matters. Every life counts

A Crisis That Demands Our Immediate Action

Hunger is one of the most devastating humanitarian crises of our time. On World Hunger Day 2025, millions of our brothers and sisters—especially in Gaza—wake up unsure if they will have anything to eat. The world produces enough food to feed all its 8 billion people, yet over 1 million people in Gaza go to bed hungry.  These are not just numbers; they represent real people who endure a heartbreaking reality, especially in Gaza.

In Gaza, starvation has reached catastrophic levels. Children waste away from malnutrition, parents dig through rubble for anything edible, and entire communities live in severe famine. Almost 100% of the population is displaced, and the entire 2.1 million population of Gaza is facing prolonged foot shortages, resulting in hunger, malnutrition and starvation. We are witnessing the worst atrocities to recent date unfold in real time before our very own eyes.

The Agonising Reality of Hunger in Gaza

Imagine a child so hungry that crying is too painful. Imagine what a mother must feel, knowing she can’t feed her malnourished family. This is every day in Gaza. Without serious, immediate action, nobody in Gaza is safe.

    • 75% of Gaza are at “Emergency” or “Catastrophic” food deprivation
    • Since the aid blockade on 2nd March 2025, over 50 children have died from the effects of malnutrition
    • Border crossings into Gaza have been closed for over two months – the longest the population has ever faced
    • Over 70,000 children under the age of five are expected to be acutely malnourished within the next year
    • Almost 17,000 pregnant women are expected to need treatment for acute malnutrition within the next year
    • 25kg of wheat flour is as much as £385

Our Ummah in Gaza are trapped in a vicious cycle where malnutrition and disease fuel each other, with every illness being a serious risk of death. As malnutrition weakens their bodies, it makes it harder to recover from illnesses like diarrhoea, pneumonia and measles. With healthcare inaccessible, nutrition a distant dream, and limited access to clean water and sanitation, the people of Gaza are at increased risk of each day being their last.

Allahﷻ reminds us: “And whoever saves one [life]—it is as if he had saved all of mankind.” [Qur’an 5:32]. Every meal we provide, every life we save, is a beloved act to Allahﷻ.

The Ummah’s Duty: Four Sacred Obligations

As one, united Ummah, we cannot stand by while our Ummah continues to suffer unimaginable hardship. No matter our situation, we can all help in some way:

    1. Immediate Food Aid: Distributing emergency meals, clean water, and nutritional support.

    1. Sustainable Relief: Investing in long-term food security through sustainable programmes and infrastructure development.
    2. Advocacy: Pressuring governments and organizations to end blockades and allow aid into Gaza.
    3. Sincere Du’a: Remembering our brothers and sisters who are suffering, keeping them in our prayers every single day.

     A Divine Ultimatum

As dire as the situation in Gaza has become, we shouldn’t stop working to end hunger. If anything, this should serve as a severe wake-up call. One Ummah is calling for immediate action. Let your charity be their lifeline. You can donate a food pack for only £40, which can feed a family of up to five for an entire month, less than what our phone bills cost, Alhamdulillah.

Allahﷻ will question us: "Then what has brought you to Hellfire?" They will say, "We were not of those who prayed, nor did we feed the poor." [Qur’an 74:42-44].

Reports tell us there is a risk of famine, but it’s not hard to see that famine is no longer a risk; it’s a reality. Will we stand among those who witnessed and stayed silent? Or will we be the Ansar of our time—those who gave until it hurt?

Please share this post with family and friends to spread awareness. Silence is complicity. The Prophetﷺ said: “The best charity is that given when you are in need.” [Ibn Majah]. Even in hardship, we must give—because somewhere, someone has nothing.

Donate now. Save lives today. Be their hope.
