Ibn al-Qayyim (may Allah have mercy on him) said, 

'Charity given on this day [Friday] holds a unique distinction over any other day. Indeed, giving charity on Friday compared to the rest of the week is just like giving charity during the month of Ramadan compared to the rest of the year.' [Zad al-Ma'ad] 

He then continues and mentions what his teacher, the illustrious Imam, Ibn Taymiyyah, used to do when leaving for the Jummah prayer, 

'And I witnessed Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah (may Allah sanctify his soul) that whenever he set out for Friday prayer, he would take whatever he could find in his house, whether bread or anything else, and give it away as charity secretly on his way to the Masjid.' [Zad al-Ma'ad]
