Emergency Relief Fund - Help Families Through a Crisis

Conflict and natural disasters can interrupt the things a household depends on. Food may be harder to obtain, water supplies can be damaged and a home may no longer be safe to stay in. Different emergencies call for different kinds of assistance. 

One Ummah’s emergency work includes food parcels, drinking water and temporary shelter. Depending on the response, it can also include bedding, warm clothing, medical supplies and first aid. These are examples of the help supported by the programme, rather than a list of everything included in a single donation package. 

A supply of drinking water helps a household with needs that continue throughout the day, including drinking and preparing food. Bedding and warm clothing address another concern when people have had to leave familiar shelter. These are useful forms of assistance because they meet needs a family cannot set aside while waiting for circumstances to improve. 

The Emergency Relief Fund allows you to support that work through this appeal. You can give towards an emergency response without having to choose one country’s appeal, while understanding that the assistance needed will depend on the situation our teams are responding to. 

Choose The Help You Can Support 

The donation options on this Emergency Aid page start at £50, which can provide emergency aid. A £100 gift can provide an emergency aid pack for a family of five. If you can give £300, it can provide packs for three families of up to five people each. 

Choose what you can afford. There is also a custom amount option, so you can contribute without having to match one of the suggested prices. If you need to ask about the help an amount supports before choosing your gift, please contact us and tell us what you would like to understand. 

Giving together is another way to take part. A family or group of friends could contribute towards a £100 gift, with each person giving what they can manage. If you share the appeal, keep the donation description accurate so others understand what they are supporting. 

After a crisis, a parent’s ordinary responsibilities continue in unfamiliar circumstances. There are children to feed and people who need looking after, even when the household cannot rely on its usual food supplies or shelter. Having assistance available can make those responsibilities a little easier to meet. 

Think of the care involved in helping someone in your own family who is unwell or away from home. You consider what they need and what would be useful to them. Give with that same concern for a family facing an emergency, and the people depending on them.

Giving as One Ummah

In a Hadeeth recorded in Sahih Muslim 2699a, the Prophet ﷺ taught about relieving a believer’s hardship and Allah’s help for a servant who helps his brother. Concern for someone else’s difficulty belongs in the way we practise our faith. 

Your Sadaqah can be an act of that concern. Give seeking Allah’s pleasure, remembering that the people receiving assistance have needs and responsibilities as familiar to them as ours are to us. Make Du’a for their safety and for the people working to deliver aid. 

An emergency can prompt us to give straight away. The Emergency Relief Fund also offers a monthly option if you want to keep supporting this work regularly. Consider what you can sustain alongside your own commitments, and choose the frequency that suits you. 

You can keep remembering the families in your Du’a after the first news report has passed. Their need for food, water and shelter can continue beyond the day that brought the emergency to our attention.

One Ummah’s 100% donation policy allocates the amount received for a project towards delivering that cause. Project delivery can include implementation costs; core running costs are funded separately. External payment fees can affect the amount received.
