The areas of Aden, Marib, Lahj, and Al Hodeidah have been hit the hardest, with entire neighbourhoods submerged and critical infrastructure completely destroyed.
The crisis is nowhere near finished. Weather forecasts predict further heavy rainfall in the coming days and weeks, raising fears that the death toll and displacement will only continue to climb. For families already living in temporary shelter—seeking refuge in overcrowded schools and public buildings—this flooding represents yet another devastating blow to their hopes of stability and safety.
The recent floods have struck a nation already battling with the damage of over ten years of relentless conflict. This prolonged war has systematically dismantled Yemen's infrastructure, destroyed its healthcare system, and pushed millions into extreme poverty. What were once thriving communities are now demoralised, with hospitals reduced to rubble and schools turned into shelters for the displaced.
