Key Dates for Dhul Hijjah 2026
Dates are subject to the official sighting of the moon:
- Start of Dhul Hijjah: Expected Monday, 18th May 2026.
- Day of ‘Arafah: Expected Tuesday, 26th May 2026 (9th Dhul Hijjah).
- Eid ul-Adha: Expected Wednesday, 27th May 2026 (10th Dhul Hijjah).
- Hajj Season: Expected between 25th May and 30th May 2026.

Hajj and Spiritual Devotion
For those undertaking the sacred pilgrimage, these days represent a profound journey of spiritual purification. For those unable to perform Hajj this year, the rewards of worship remain vast:

Eid ul-Adha

The Day of ‘Arafah
The Day of ‘Arafah is one of the most powerful days for forgiveness and supplication. Fasting on this day expiates the sins of the preceding and coming year, making it a crucial time for sincere prayer and repentance.
Fasting Guidelines
Fasting during the first nine days of Dhul Hijjah is highly recommended, particularly on the 9th day, the Day of ‘Arafah.
'The Prophet used to fast on the first nine days of Dhul Hijjah, the day of Ashura, three days each month, and the first Monday and two Thursdays of the month.' [Abu Dawood, 2437]
Fasting is strictly prohibited on Eid ul-Adha (10th Dhul Hijjah), as it is a day of celebration. Fasting is also prohibited during the days of Tashreeq (11th, 12th, and 13th Dhul Hijjah), except for pilgrims who do not have a sacrificial animal.
Recommended Conduct During Dhul Hijjah
To respect the sanctity of these days, believers are encouraged to uphold specific Sunnah practices and maintain good character.
Refraining from Cutting Hair and Nails
Anyone intending to offer a Qurbani sacrifice should avoid cutting their hair or trimming their nails from the first day of Dhul Hijjah until their sacrifice is completed. This guideline applies specifically to the person paying for or offering the sacrifice.
Avoiding Waste and Excess
Avoid overindulgence, excessive unhealthy food, and unnecessary waste. We should protect the health Allah has blessed us with and remain mindful of those who lack basic nourishment.
Guarding Character and Speech
Protect your heart from anger, backbiting, and unnecessary conflict. Focus your energy on sincere repentance, worship, and helping those in distress.
