Quran - [3:92]
Dhul Hijjah isn’t just the final month of the Islamic year—it’s Allah’sﷻ sacred gift to us believers. It is a time when we are blessed by the arrivals of Hajj, Eid ul-Adha, and the Day of ‘Arafah, transforming these 10 days into a divine spotlight—where every deed is magnified, every Du’a is elevated, and every act of charity is worth mountains of rewards.
Many of us leave Ramadan wishing we’d done more. Dhul Hijjah is another chance—a mercy from Allahﷻ to wipe away sins, multiply rewards, and attain righteousness. This is the month where Prophet Ibrahim’s عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ sacrifice becomes our legacy, and Qurbani becomes our sincere act of devotion to Allahﷻ.
Allahﷻ has granted you another year. Study this guide and don’t let this sacred time slip away.

Hajj: The Fifth Pillar of Islam
For those performing Hajj, these days are a journey of purification. But even if you can’t go, Allahﷻ opens other doors:
Eid ul-Adha: The Festival of Sacrifice
This Eid isn’t just about feasting—it’s about reviving the legacy of Ibrahim عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ. When you give Qurbani, you embody his unshakable trust in Allahﷻ—and feed families who haven’t tasted meat all year.
The Day of ‘Arafah: Your Ticket to Forgiveness
Where Adam عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ and Hawa reunited. Where the Prophetﷺ gave his final sermon. Where fasting erases two years of sins. This is the day to stand in prayer, weep in Du’a, and secure your freedom from the Hell-fire.
When to fast in Dhul Hijjah?
It is Sunnah to Fast the first 9 days of Dhul Hijjah—especially on the 9th of Dhul Hijjah; the Day of ‘Arafah.
“The Prophetﷺ used to fast on the first nine days of Dhul Hijjah, the day of Ashura, three days each month, the first Monday of the month and two Thursdays.” (Abu Dawood).
Fasting is prohibited on Eid al-Adha (10th Dhul Hijjah)—it’s a day of celebration. This is indicated by the hadith of Abu Sa’eed al-Khudri رَضِيَ ٱللَّٰهُ عَنْهُ who said: “The Prophet forbade fasting on the day of al-Fitr and al-Nahr .” (Bukhari, Muslim).
We are also told to refrain from fasting on the days of al-Tashreeq; the three days after Eid ul-Adha (the 11th, 12th and 13th of Dhu’l-Hijjah). The Prophetﷺ said: “The days of al-Tashreeq are days of eating, drinking and remembering Allah.” (Muslim). However, it is permissible to fast on the days of al-Tashreeq for a pilgrim who does not have a hadiy (sacrificial animal).
Cutting Hair and Nails:
The Prophet Muhammadﷺ said; “When you see the new moon of Dhul-Hijjah, if any one of you wants to offer a sacrifice, then he should stop cutting his hair and nails until he has offered his sacrifice.” (Muslim).
This ruling applies to those who slaughter the Ud-hiyah, not those for whom the Ud-hiyah is slaughtered. For example, it is acceptable for the family of the person offering the Ud-hiyah to remove things from their hair, nails and skin during the first ten days of Dhul-Hijjah. This is also allowed if one has to remove them because of necessity.
Overindulgence, Unhealthy Food and Wastage:
We should avoid overeating and eating lots of unhealthy food, such as those that are oily and sugary (e.g. excessive deep-fried food and fizzy drinks). This is a time when we should prioritise our health and look after the bodies that Allahﷻ has blessed us with. We should also avoid wasting food, especially as this is a time when so many of our Ummah are without it.
Anger and Frustration:
We should maintain our composure and not allow Shaytaan to get under our skin. Remember that anger is from Shaytaan, and letting that anger out, especially during Allah’sﷻmost beloved days, is not time well spent.
We should stay away from all major and minor sins—especially backbiting, wastefulness, and neglect of worship.
One Ummah works tirelessly on the ground in 15 countries, distributing your Qurbani meat to the most vulnerable members of our Ummah in the hardest to reach locations. In 2024 alone, you fed 123,663 people, Alhamdulillah. This will be the only meat many of our Ummah eat all year.
Your Qurbani brings joy and allows those less fortunate to share the blessings of Eid ul-Adha without worrying where their next meal will come from. By doing this sacred act of Ibadah, you embody the spirit of Ibrahim عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ and please Allahﷻ.
Give your Qurbani through One Ummah today, feed your Ummah, and earn immense rewards during Allah’sﷻ favourite days.
You can rest assured that your Qurbani donation is safe in the hands of One Ummah.
